Tables and a Browser's Habit of Black-Backgrounding

as the title suggests, I've had a terrible time with my basic table codings turning black in Opera and Chrome. I'm about to start coding a website for my art, but since Chrome is going to be my main browser, I'd like my website to co-exist with it happily. Is there a knack or a trick to getting that to poof?
I also use CSS, but I'm a little more then sure this is an HTML problem, but I can't be 100% accurate.

If anyone can help, it'd be most appreciative~

Hi duLuna. I'm not sure what you mean by your table codings turning black. If you can show an online example, then that would be helpful.
The last time I looked Chrome was still in Beta so you still may get some unexpected results and i've always found Opera to be one of the most buggy browsers out there on par with IE6.

I have to disagree, Opera falls pretty close Firefox for standards compliance, unlike IE. If you get it right in FF, chances are it'll be fine in Opera.

Tables, and browsers, do NOT add any black backgrounds by default, so it has to be in the code somewhere.

I'd have to agree with LadynRed about Opera. The only problems I've ever had with Opera are when the standard isn't written very clearly and could be interpreted in a couple ways. There is also a minor difficulty with Opera I've encountered a couple times when it interprets widths set to "auto" (which is sometimes used to override a fixed width on something). Other than that, Opera is first-rate in the HTML/CSS department, certainly nowhere near the level I need to junk around to work with IE6.
