to secure, or not to secure -- that is the question

Hey all,

I recently started a business online and in an attempt to secure things, I set up my .htaccess to default to https whenever someone heads to my site. This would be fine, except I'm running google ads, which aren't offered in https format. So for visitors using IE, they get the annoying security popups.

So my question is, do you think it's more important to have all my pages secure, does it really matter, or should i ditch the ads?

A description of my site: there are user pages, but no credit card information or anything like that is stored on them. And the payment process runs through paypal, not on my site. I noticed facebook doesn't run https, which made me think i was going overboard with the whole secure thing.

Thanks for any advice!

You don't have to secure every page on your site. That's a bit overkill and slows the users experience.

I hate sites which give me those security warnings... for the main pages it should never have them.

IF your site be hack what's that you lose?
if it's about page code , i recommend make frequently backup and NOT SECURE
but if you lose money then SECURE.
you can also think that possibility "MIX of both secure and not secure pages in your site like google"

I don't think it's necessary to have any security (regarding https) unless you're posting data... and even then, I wouldn't bother with it unless the data is worth stealing. However, if you have a members-only area, I think that the SSL is a nice touch, especially since you already have it.

Only use HTTPS when transferring information that you don't want others to see.
Logins and payments should be secured.
User pages should only be secured if they display information that could be used against you or your customers. If it's just what your customers have bought, and tracking info, etc, I wouldn't secure it.

Merry Christmas!
