Is there a way to know how many times an image hosted on my server, has been opened on another site???

Ex. If I post a comment on a blog and add an image (ex. <img src="mysite.com/img.jpg /) how can I check the number of times that image has been requested.... That way I can know how many times that page has been open.

What server are you using? Does it have a control panel? Generally your server would have a stats system installed and you can view a lot of interesting things such as how many times an image file has been viewed.

I'm not sure... I'm using hostgator as my host... I'm checking in their control panel but I'm finding all sorts of stats, but none with info for specific images. :/

If the image is not used on a page on your site, every request is a remote request and the logs will show the number of times it has been requested.

If it on one or more pages on your site then you would have to subtract those page loads from the total.

Hint: If I am right and that is the only way make a copy of the image with a different name and use that only on remote sites.

is this the easiest way to track how much your post has possibly been read? or is there a program out there that will show you how many times it has been retrieved and from what url? wouldn't something like that be feasible?
