Hello and good evening,

Does anybody know a feature in Dreamweaver 8 that changes special characters from german, french or spanish to valid HTML-code?

I tried to paste some text with accents into my body and all it shows is weird numbers and letters...

Or is there a website that offers that service (for free)?

I tried to go to the preferences of Dreamweaver, changed the preferences for the auto-correction, re-opened the files but it didn't solve the problem.

Thanks in advance,
C@ndy

You don't need a service, you need to specify the proper character set in your document.

Wow! I got the solution!

Thanks for the hint Miss Red - it was because of this meta tag :

HTML Code:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" />
(that tells the browser that in this html-document he will be confronted with special characters from western europe - e.g. spanish, french....)
It was missing and now the browser was confused with all these special characters!

Thanks alot!
