Firefox and IE issue, driving me mad!

I am working on a new site that I just can't figure out this issue that I get in Firefox and IE. Safari renders the page fine, and I just cannot figure out the issue. The links on the left move down when there is a lot of content on a page even though I have everything aligned to top. The page validates and valid XHTML and CSS.

If you click on one of the training/workshops pages or the about page you'll see what I mean about the links.

Your problem is that you're using tables. Big no-no.

Scratch what you did and start over using proper CSS coding. If you run into problems, come back and ask for help with the parts you don't understand.

Thanks for your advice, I redid the site using CSS and div tags instead. I validated the site's CSS and, and I have now fixed the issue! Only now I have another issue, the menu that I have no longer works in IE or firefox. You can't click to go to pages anymore despite the URL being displayed in the status bar. There are a few more IE related issues, but that won't be too hard to fix. As of now I have only posted the new CSS based layout on the about page:

Your nav doesn't work huh? That's because you have bad paths in your nav. Even if you manually type in the link it doesn't work. It's a logical error. Change them to the right path or upload the files....

Your links are all referencing files ON YOUR HARD DRIVE - fix that and everything should work just fine.

Noah, are you just exporting from some plug and play program? The coding looks very, very messy. I see a heck of a lot of images and divs that don't need to be there.

I will admit that I do export from photoshop and edit from there, it seems like relearning how to do that from scratch will take forever.

Then I would again suggest that you scratch what you did and start over using proper CSS coding. Those export functions from Photoshop and FireWorks will not provide you the clean, proper code you should be using. You're going to have browser compatibility problems as well as lag time from bloated code.

I've made a lot of progress and I've made sure to shrink up my code by fixing some slicing redundancies in photoshop. As I would like to take your advice on cleaning my code, I need to have this project done quickly but as soon as it's released I will begin to tweak it. In the meantime, I have fixed every issue in safari and firefox leaving only one left in IE; the menus in IE are messed up and go behind some of the other elements, I messed with the z-index of the classes with no luck, is there something else I should be doing?

Is it IE7 or IE6 you are having problems with?

Your problem stems from all that unnecessary absolute positioning, which IE has major problems with. You said you took it from tables to divs, but all you did was use divs to lay it out like a table - not the best or most efficient approach Im afraid.
