Here's a site that I like.

It is NOT MY site, it's a site I like.

http://www.paulsmithphotography.com

How can you get such a full screen design work on different size and resolution monitors?

It's pretty simple. He's embedding the .swf into the page using JavaScript, so he can make the container have a 100% height and width, and fun stuff like that.

And since he's using flash, a lot of the art is vector - so it can be resized to infinity without requiring more data. And the pictures are just really big.

Thanks, stevej.

Well, I'm not going to learn flash, but javascript is on my list.

Other sites out there also use CSS to make their backrounds repeat or stay to a certain scale, without having to re-code every page, or without having to use flash.

This sounds interesting.

Can you post examples?

Take a look behind the css of these three free layouts. (Free layouts are my favorite way of learning since you can freely go about the code and make changes without having to worry about ruining things. You can always download them again lol!)

Check out how they did their images and CSS to make the entire site go full screen, or only part of the screen.

Thanks, Ladynred and Vexar for your contributions.

Trying out this and that and see where it gets me.

But I guess the fluid design attracts me at the moment.

In a way I find that fixed window that floats somewhere on the screen too limiting. I can always give the max-width property to the CSS of the body to avoid overly stretched pages on widescreen monitors.

Just be aware that IE6 doesn't support min/max width or height.

Thanks.

I wonder how many people still use that old browser.
