I used CSS by adding an inline style: text-decoration: center for the div containing my AddThis toolbar. It didn't work.

That's because center is NOT a proper value for text-decoration ! Text-decoration is either none, or underline, and it ONLY applies to text or links!

If you want to center the div, give it a width, and use margin: 0 auto to center it. READ the stickies!
