Freezing a section of my webpage

Hi All,
I am not a website designer. I am actually a bonafide amateur when it comes to building websites. This is what I am trying to
do. I want to freeze a specific section of my website. When visitors to my website scroll down the webpage, I only want the
material in the "main content" section of the page to move. An example of this functionality is captured in the page below:

On my website, www.radiocremebrulee.com, I want to freeze the menu, the image above it, and the main header image. I only
want the content section to scroll. I am aware that the "position:fixed" tag should work. I have read a lot about it online but for
some odd reason, I am unable to find instructions on what specific actions I need to take for my situation. My questions are:

a. What changes need to be made in the index.html file?

b. What changes need to made in the style.css file?

I do not want to spend more time on this than I already have. If any of you have a quick solution to this issue, please do let me know.
I really want to get this working at the earliest possible. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Pranav

Two ways, at least, to do this.

1. Fixed positioning of the navigation.

2. Better: achieve it by using a fluid layout with columns. Your navigation column would stay on top while the content columns would be as long as they'd have to be, including scrollbars.

Do you have links to examples of both? Just curious. I am leaning towards option 1 since I do not want a separate scroll bar for the content section.

Thanks for the response.

I'd recommend version 2.

You can just google "fluid design" and "css fixed positioning".

But I'd recommend to get a book.

This is a good beginners' book.

Also, I recommend the CSS book by David McFarland from the Missing Manual series.

If you just want to grab free articles from the web, it'll take you forever to get somewhere in web design. I'm still more at the beginning, but I just got my first fluid design working.

Hi. Thank you once again for the response as well as the link to the book. I actually spent hours working on this yesterday. The issue I have is that my index.html file elements are laid out within a table. Hence, in order to freeze sections of my page, I have to freeze individual cells in the table using the "position:fixed" tag but when I do this my individual elements get scattered all over the place. Furthermore, I am not able to freeze the "menu links". I have looked for online web resources, and you are right, it gets me absolutely nowhere. I might have to get the help of a professional web developer for this since I have tanked way too many hours trying to solve this issue. Thank you once again for your input.
