I have several web sites, all prepared using FrontPage and all prepared using the same format.

I noticed recently that on one of my sites the usual <html> at the top of the page had been replaced by <html xmlns:mso="urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" xmlns:msdt="uuid:C2F41010-65B3-11d1-A29F-00AA00C14882">

To the best of my knowledge I have done nothing different on this site which would cause this change.

Can someone please explain the meaning, and significance, of this code and the consequences of deleting it.

Thanks in anticipation

Its a Front page thing mate.

If you wanted a simple page to say Hello then Front page could write it in about 50 lines. NASTY.
If I were you i would just leave it as the next time you open it in Front page it will just change it back.

Damned tools take the fun away from us programmers anyway (and they cost money).

Get a new hobby and do it by hand, you seriously cant learn much about html etc by using a tool like Dreamweaver or Frontpage. Get notebook open and crack on.

True.. frontpage is just for beginers and small personal websites but if you want to create a great site you will have to code by hand.. I find it much easier

Frontpage adds a lot of useless code to your pages. There's no point in trying to understand why As mentioned above, you should learn to code by hand, you'll be better off in the long run.

Yeah, all my mates think I'm crazy for not using dreamweaver, but I look at it like this:

If I know what Dreamweaver is putting in my pages at least I can have a go at fixing it by hand if anything goes wrong... you know...

I use Dreamweaver...in the coding view. I almost NEVER use the design view...unless I want a quick look at what I just did.

I use a program called Arachnophilia, a simple text editor with a few web-design oriented things, like a preview window. (I use an old, simple version, the new version is ****, in my opinion)

I tried dreamweaver and found it frustrating. I don't like things like that, I want to see nothing but code, not a bunch of crap cluttering my screen
