I am new to this site and hoping for some help. I have Office 2007, Adobe Photoshop CS2, along with its companions ImageReady CS2 and LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2. Running o/s Windows XP Pro ver. 2002 SP3.

I have a photo of a group of individuals and the names of those in the photo. Using Photoshop and ImageReady, I created an image map with mouseover names of the people; the document saved as an HTML file.

I can open the file and the mouseover works great, but of course, it opens in Internet Explorer. The problem is that my manager wants the photo below the signature on some, but not all, emails that are sent. He wants people to be able to hover over a person on the photo and see who it is. I have tried inserting the photo in any number of ways in an email message but cannot get the mouseover to work.

Any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful.

Thanks,
Shirlene

And you're not going to get it to work either, especially in Outlook 2007! MS decided, starting with Office 2007, that the only way to do emails is with Word (UGH!) as it's editor and OL has next to no support for CSS and absolutely will NOT run scripts of any kind (a 'security feature').

You will also find sketchy CSS and JS support in other email clients, so what he wants just isn't going to work I'm afraid.

Thank you so much for your reply. I can show this site as an expert site, along with your response, and he will think of something else to do instead.

Thanks again,
Shirlene

Before he asks, or finds it, Flash in an email won't work either

I do have two ways for you to solve this but it's a little outside the box.....

What you can do is create an animated gif from the photo.

Create a core image of all of the people.
Then in sequence or by row have a larger photo of the person and their name "Pop out". Like a call-out mini slideshow.

The veiwer would have to sit through the entire sequence and they would not get to "choose" who pops out, But everyone in the photo would get recognized in a round about way and animated gifs do work in most email programs.

Or....barring that, you could put a static photo in the email and make it a LINK to the interactive picture page online. Then online you could use the full mouseover affect, flash or any one of 10000 other affects.

The problems with an animated gif though;
- poor quality for photos - really poor
- the file would be HUGE
- far too many mail programs, including Outlook, BLOCK images by default.

The link to a picture page online is probably the best solution
