I actually wouldn't reccomend adding this to your page unless you have a good reason. Or if you don't care very much about SEO

It's worthless using "nofollow". It is used to tell Search Engine's Crawlers not to crawl a links. If you care about SEO then you must know that using "nofollow" gives bad impression to Search Engines. These days Google can crawl those "nofollow" links.

That's not quite right putting nofollow on your own internal links to flow your PR to more important pages doesn't work anymore; putting nofollow on outbound links is still recommended if you don't want to vouch for those links.

They do crawl the links...they just don't pass on PageRank to the outgoing links with rel="nofollow". You might be thinking of "noindex".

exactly the reasoning... my site has user generated information and in their profile allows them to put a link... incase they are putting sites that I don't vouch for then I rather just nofollow all of them

why ref? it should be rel= no follow... Its a wrong code I think you can ignore it.

i have no deep knowledge for programming but i know if your site link is shows no follow attribute than it is not helpful for Google as a backlink for your site.

The whole Nofollow etc has got very confusing, and I think even Google themselves didn't really want it to be that much of an issue.

You can "noindex" your own page through the Meta tags but not
individual links ON the page.

Crafty SEOs used to engage in "page sculpting" by using <link rel="nofollow">
on their page to concentrate the Google juice where they wanted.
But if you take the time to watch the Matt Cutts video blog you will see that
Google has changed their PR algorythm to effectively make that strategy useless now.

There is a bit of evidence to to suggest that Google DOES in fact crawl and index "nofollow" links.
