Hey Guys,

I wasn't sure if you guys would know what I was talking about so I went ahead and took a screenshot. This has always been a problem of mine. After I get the site designed, slice it up, and get it imported into Dreamweaver, I always somehow end up stretching the tables by putting content in the "news" or "content" section. How can I add as much news as I want while having the sides remain at the top like they are suppose to instead of trying to come down and stretch with the content?

I'm not sure if it is a slicing issue or if I am just missing something simple, but I have had this problem with every website I have ever tried to create and have just given up on them... this time I actually want to overcome this.

Here is what is going on:

It is the default behavior of tables, and divs for that matter, to stretch vertically to contain the content within them.

For one, stop using tables for layout. Use CSS to control your layout. If you don't want the content areas to stretch vertically, then use the scroll property with a set height for those areas.

I'm not sure how to go about designing something using CSS because that is a field that I have very little experience in. I do understand how it can be cleaner looking, faster to load, and all around easier to manage, however do not know where to start when designing one.

Can you provide me with any links that will help me with learning how to convert a photoshop "table" layout to a CSS layout?.. or is that even possible? (I'm very confused on this subject)

I just need a place to start... all help is appreciated.

Thanks again,

Brandon

Basically what I'm asking...

I have my design in Photoshop... how would I go about converting the table that I am given into something that is more user friendly and easier manageable than 1 table (which is what I am given when I export it from psd to html)

I've looked for tutorials on youtube/google and every one that I have looked at is all doing the website with one big table (like I have always previously done).

I understand how one table would stretch when other cells within that table stretch, but am unsure how to get away from tables when all that I am given is 1 big exported table...

Please help! I'm banging my head against the wall lol

Well, you need to start by learning CSS, but I highly recommend this book, you might find it in a library if you don't want to buy it:

Ty

I will try putting absolute positioned div's on top of my images and see if that works any better.
