Not exactly sure if this is the right forum as it doesn't necessarily involve HTML.

Recently, I have been contemplating helping a friend setup a website for her high school newspaper. In the past, I have always been the sole owner of any site that I created, meaning that any content I wanted to add, I added directly to the code.

But as my friend doesn't have any experience whatsoever with websites, obviously adding the content by editing the code directly is not the way to go. Plus it just seems inefficient.

Mainly, I want to know how I would go about making it easy to add additional content such as news stories, photos, videos, etc. I'm guessing PHP would be required, although I have never learned it (I'm always willing to try, though!).

Are there any kind of scripts or something along those lines that would make the process easier for a beginner? I'm proficient with HTML and CSS, but like I said I have yet to delve into any hardcore web programming.

Thanks!

I'm not really experienced in this area, so I'll give you a link to a blog post that seems like it might be helpful (yes, I'm taking the lazy way out)

Coding something like that from scratch would take a lot of time and there is no point when so many great CMS systems are out there. I would highly suggest Wordpress(www.wordpress.org) Wordpress is a blogging software platform that is free to download.

You can do everything you mentioned above and your friend won't need to know ANY html or CSS, etc.

You can choose from thousands of pre-made themes, modify a theme or even create one from scratch if you're willing to do some coding.(Some php knowledge is very helpful here)

There are other CMS(content management systems) that are great and free to use like Drupal or joomla.

Good luck!

+1 for wordpress. You can even give different levels of access to different people so they find it harder to break it.
