I would like to construct a table which has a unique link for each column.
I am extremely new to HTML and other web technologies.
I have tried to figure out if I can use colgroup and onClick="window.open('http://yahoo.com',… but I honestly have no
idea what to do.

Link the content in the table not the table itself

If understood you correct, you want to have a column such as 'date' and you want to sort by that column?

If that's it, you might want to do it using html and mysql, otherwise it becomes too much work by hand.

add the same link to each cell's content under the same column. and you could try adding "display: block;" to your css file
