it's not a valid part of the html spec and for good reason: it's really annoying and it can be an accessibility hurdle for those with epilepsy or other movement induced difficulties.

use a different colour instead, for example.

No! NO! NO! NO! You really do NOT want to do this at all.

There is a reason why the tag was deprecated and does not work in modern browsers. There is a property in CSS for blinking text but fortunately this is not supported by any version of IE (something they got right )

Oh, come on. A little blinking during the holiday season never hurt anybody.

And you can add some falling snow with a bit of Javascripting too.

Don't forget some funky transitions between pages as well.

don't want to bring the idea back, or spoil it, but...

You can still do blinking text...Just create two exact same size images.

1. create two images merrychristmas1.gif and the other merrychristmas2.gif
2. color merrychristmas1.gif RED and merrychristmas2.gif in GREEN
3. use a tool like gif construction set to merge the two of them together to make merrychristmas.gif and there you have a blinking merrychristmas.gif!

have fun!

There's 100 responses for this one, but all of them would get me banned.

You can go to DynamicDrive.com and look for the Javascript for that. You'll have to include credits in the code, but in many cases, you learn a little about Javascript.

But in regard to what some other posters have said, be careful with too much stuff like that. While I can't say it's never appropriate, it's more often misused than used properly.

Hope this helps.

Using a Javascript will help you, not all browsers support flashing characters.

Then when you've found the perfect Javascript functionality for your blinking gifs you can slap a spinning @ image to Contact Me Now.

I think you would be better off blinking your eyes to create the visual effect. Otherwise you could do the old school method and make an animated gif in image ready.

Why not just make it flash or an animated gif?

Don't use absolute positioning.

Use the natural document flow there is no need to use positioning of any kind to make a layout work.

Put the form inside it's own container and make the image the background.
