can someone explain what is the difference between padding and margin?
I always thought it was the same thing..

Margin is the space outside a Div or other container element,
Padding is the space inside an element.

Umm.. that's not correct either. I suggest you read up on the box model:

You'll see in the diagram, padding and margin BOTH are on the OUTSIDE of an element.

I just looked at that link you referenced and it CLEARLY shows Margin OUTSIDE the box and padding INSIDE the box.

the margin is outside the border which is inside the "box".

What so many people think of as the "box" is just the content area. The box itself is the actually the overall dimensions of the element, which includes the margins
