Hi there,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. New to this website and keen to get inspired by you all..

Im on my 3rd year of a design course majoring in webdesign I know how to code (but not very well) i just love designing..

I want to code a website I have currently designed (still got abit more to do) but once iv done all that I want to implement a CMS.

How do I go about it? Do I find a CMS and then code my website into the CMS? if so how? any tutorials?

whats a good CMS? I am clueless about CMS and wish to learn more about it.

I am by no means an expert, but I've made a site using wordpress for a cms and found it to be very easy to install.

And I have a completely different opinion. All the stuff mentioned and all that you will find are bloated, exploitable pigs. Write your own and keep your code to yourself.

That way you will have a safe secure site.

Definitely agree with the 'bloated' comment IF this is something for a course or for yourself (hobby) BUT if you're doing some work or a serious project then you might want to start on Wordpress. WP is very easy to customise.

joomla is excellent and powerful but an overkill if you're after simple solutions

Magento... you'll probably go through 3 keyboards, 1 mouse and 2 LCD monitors.

I really like the wordpress platform and have espoused it benefits to a couple of friends. This will be a good resource for the flexibility that you can get using wordpress. Your site works really well, and you would never know it was a wordpress site.

All platforms above are good but I would like to recommend my own CMS. There is no need to download and install, just an instant setup procedure. I also believe it has an easier learning curve. So perfect for the beginner.

"Joomla" and "Easy to use" do not usually belong together

Just choose your CMS first then go for designing it. There are many tutorials about wordpress, drupal, etc.

Where most CMS are concerned you will probably want to check out MySQL first.

oh.. and for wordpress. how does the basics go for website design and using their cms?

do you cut up your design from photoshop.. completely code it in dreamweaver or whatever and make it work.. then find a similar template for wordpress and replace code and images?
