Looking for some basic help or for someone to point me in the right direction.

I have a site about guitars. With my songs, chords scales etc...

I had an idea on a way to make it more useful and want to add a page where it lists a selection of effect pedals in order and their settings to achieve certain sounds like an ACDC sound or Guns n Roses sound.

I'm no expert but have managed to design my own site so far and would like to know if there is an easy way to add a page like this where people can file out a form I make and upload it to the page. I would require them to fill in a title like - ACDC Sound - then list what effects pedals to use and the order of them, then each effect pedals levels, like vol, tone, drive, etc...

Any Ideas?

Not a difficult task for a database and server side code.

Not difficult like Chris said, but difficult is a relative term. How hard or easy you find it will depend on your current skills and experience.

The basic idea is you would create a database to store all the information you want to collect and display on the site. You'll build a page with a form for people to enter the information. A scripting language like PHP would then take the information submitted through the form, parse it, and input it into the database.

Since you want to also display that information you'll need to create one or more pages that use PHP to read the data from the database and display it on the page.

In order to set this up you'll need to learn a scripting language/database combination. I'm guessing you'll use PHP/MySQL as the language/database, though it's not the only combination. You will need to learn some new stuff, but what you're looking to do isn't complicated at all once you know the basics. It would even make for a good project to learn php/mysql.

php and mysql.

So far i imagine you were able to view your pages on your PC before you uploaded them to the web. PHP and MySQL, need a server to operate. So i recommend you download Wamp 2.0 or whatever the latest version is now.

I will turn your computer into a virtual server. You are then able to build PHP, MySQL and other more advance server side pages.

Do any search like, php mysql beginner tutorial, you should be able to find a picture gallery or something similar to help you understand how it all starts to work.

Tony if you grab a book on PHP/MySQL (many books will teach both) by the end of the book you should have all the skills you need to develop what you want. You might even want to work on your site while working your way through the book.

Most books will start with basic syntax and intro stuff to both PHP and MySQL (and again you don't have to pick those languages, though they'll probably be easiest to start with) and once through the basics you should start getting chapters with examples. Most of the examples will teach similar techniques to what you want to do.

Thanks again. Started doing some self teaching on the internet and a book. I have jumped about a bit to get what I want from examples etc... and have a basic submit and search database on my mysql server setup.

Will continue with book as very interesting and enjoying the challenge.
