Hi,

I have done some web design in the past but its mainly just been text and image kind of things.
I am looking to make a new site for real estate. Where should I start, ie should it be php and database driven or html. How much would somebody charge for this?

It needs a simple way of adding and deleting property and a search.

Where should I start,

Regards

For this you would need to know html and php.

If you are just starting out i would learn html first then get into php.

It is better to make your website using some html page creating software like dreamweaver or microsoft frontpage. then you can learn html on it and start customizing it manually when you have enough knowledge.
And after all of that if you need to make your website dynamic start learning php and mysql

You forgot about MySQL.
It could take whole months to learn what you need to do this...I suggest trying some already made scripts

You can go the Wordpress route. Almost anyone can make a Wordpress site using their installation tutorial. Then just visit their site for plugins and customize your page for your needs. This should hold you over at least until you are ready to upgrade to ... something else.. or maybe never upgrade!

I'd probably go the wordpress route. It's simple enough to use at first, but has a lot of flexibility. Just because it appears to be blogging software on the surface doesn't mean there isn't a whole heck of a lot more that you can do with it. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel as they say. I'd take the time to learn html as it will definitely help make your life easier. Once you get comfortable with HTML move onto checking out php.

Php used html to create dynamic sites you will need to learn both in order to achieve this real estate site an alternative is using WP and doing the Estates as listings instead of blogs.

You would need the html, css, php, javascript for this but firstly you have to know about html. it is the base for all type of coding languages used on web.
