These two have me stumped!

.xls issue - In IE, I've got links to various .xls files from an INTRANET page. The .xls files are on a differenet server (win2000) than the web server. As long as only one person tries to access the file at once, everything is fine. When someone tries to access a file that someone already has open, they just get a file not found error. When opened in windows explorer, you get a box asking if you want to open a read-only version of the spreadsheet.

question 1 - what do I need to do to get the read-only question box?

.mdb issue - same browser and site, but I can't directly open a .mdb file. I have to "save as" and then open it after it's saved.

question 2 - is there any way to just 'open' the access database directly?

Thanks folks!
