I know someone has already said it, but W3Schools have awesome tutorials. You can get a good grasp of the basics from going through their tutorials there, and they even have this cool "Try-It" editor that you can use to toy around with the code without having to actually create the files.
Since you're just starting out, there are a ton of free web hosts out there that give you subdomain names. It's a cheap / easy way to get started. The downside is that just about every one that I've personally tried has been awful. Godaddy has really cheap hosting if you can spare a couple of bucks a month while you're learning, and domain name registration there is pretty cheap yearly as well.
And personally, I'd get an FTP program like WS FTP LE just to start out with. I think that's the free version for students and home users. The upgrades are fairly inexpensive if you decide that this is really something you want to do.
