you may have to get down and dirty with some real javascript! instead of that sanitised jquery stuff.

<a href="#" onClick="history.go(-1)">Go Back</a>

Well in a perfect world it wouldn't be necessary.
BUT, I believe someone once said

Believe it or not some people wouldnt know how to find the "Back" button.

Thanks. Didn't know native javascript has a "history" object.

Oh, I believe it. However, studies have shown that people DO know how to use their "back" button and they do so liberally and easily. My sister is one who is, shall we say, 'technically challenged'. Watching her surf makes me crazy, to me she does everything the hard way, but she IS more typical of far more web users than I am, so it's also interesting to watch her. She has NO trouble finding and using the back button.

Messing with basic browser functionality is generally agreed to be something you should leave alone.

Well it's not like I am trying to hide the "Back" button.
It's still there if people prefer.

Having a "Back" button as part of the onscreen interface just
gives another option so I don't see what harm is done.

I agree that it's not really interfering with browser functionality as such; it's not like the back button itself is being interfered with. However, navigation that is well done throughout should obviate the need for that, using just regular anchors.

K.. it's not interfering, so I guess there's no harm in it. You hadn't explained what you were doing. However, I do agree with Serandfae.
