I have created a background for a website and I would like to know how to stretch the background so that it will not repeat itself no matter how much content is added into the page.

I've tried the no-repeat, repeat x and background-size:100% and it's not working...

I'd really like to know how to do it so I won't have to keep adjusting the background size to fit the page.

Any help would be great!

The background-size property will allow this when it's fully supported. IE only supports it in version 9(beta). The latest versions of Safari and Chrome will allow it using -webkit-background-size, Firefox using -moz-background-size and Opera using -o-background-size.

In the meantime, the effect can be simulated by layering the content over an image (rather than a background) as demonstrated at www.htmlite.com/faq022.php
