i have an icon and a text (description) in one line and need them both centered. Now the icon is situated higher than the text.

you can use vertical-align:middle with icon

well, i tried the vertical-align already before. But i did some checking of other code and apparantly the icon is used as a background.

yep, using the icon as a background did the trick
