file downloads from ftp

i would like to provide a ftp link so that when user clicks on this url they will be able to download video files. i have
upload the video files to the public_ftp folder

the url i tried is ftp://website.com/public_ftp/ and entered the same ftp username and password that i use to login to ftp server but i am not able to see the list of videos i uploaded

i want this to work in firefox and ie 7 and above only

Allow directory browsing for that folder.

presently the permission for the entire public_ftp folder is set to 750

Not knowing your users/groups, try 751

I don't think you can achieve the browser control though - I'd have a look at a scripted solution.

firefox gives an error alert message

550 Cant change directory to /public_ftp/ No such file or directory

Or if only certain fyle types are to be listed use

IndexIgnore *.jpg *.gif *.png

to list only jpeg, gif and png files.

i have added .htaccess in public_ftp with
IndexIgnore *

but i get the same error in firefox

the username and password probably maps to public_ftp already so it will be trying to locate /public_ftp/public_ftp/


what about other browsers

And of course assuming a standard apache setup, public_ftp will be at the samel level as public_html in the folder structure so your link will have to use the ../ syntax to indicate that the folder can be found one level up from the webroot.

in /home/public_ftp/

Another simple way to give permission - login into your control panel and from there you can go to your ftp and there you can give read/write permission to folders. Once done..you can access through FF or IE. But the better way is to access them
through a FTP software.
