Colored Scrollbars in Firefox

Just switched to Firefox from IE because all my friends said I should. I got beaten down until peer pressure got the best of me and here I am in Firefox. However, there's one thing I don't like - no colored scrollbars. Now that I'm IE spoiled with the colored scrollbar I think it completely ruins some sites.

Is there someway to get colored scrollbars in any Mozilla browser, or no? Or is it so hard that no one likes to bother with it?

I think that it should be made clear that this is because they are not part of the W3's specification.

Some browsers (IE, Konqueror) have recently started supporting the non-standard properties 'scrollbar-shadow-color', 'scrollbar-track-color' and others. These properties are illegal: they are neither defined in any CSS specification nor are they marked as proprietary (by prefixing them with "-vendor-").

You're right about the peer pressure, in general but switching to a browser OTHER than IE is safer, esp if it's Firefox 1.0.1 or Opera 8 (the last build).

Btw, I went to the site on W3 Consortium that was just posted and then went to the test and had to switch to IE to see what in the heck y'all were talking about since *I* had never really run across the colored scrollbars. Liz

I'd disagree with that. IE is completely safe as long as you keep it up to date and don't do anything stupid.

Firefox users get lulled into a false sense of security - they think it's the be all and end all of security issues - but Firefox (and open source software in general) has it's fair share of security issues. They just don't get as much media hype and aren't targ as Microsoft do cos they're not so widely used.

I used to work in a company where they used open source software extensivly. It caused nothing but problems that nobody really knew how to fix... no help desk to call up, just had to pile on more and more hacks...

Actually the SAFEST browser right now is Opera 8 the last build and that is due to a security flaw in a SunJava file that allows a jar file to be dropped into your computer even when surfing with Firefox, etc...as long as you use a Windows product, it can happen.

And this file bypasses EVERYHING known to stop it and you not even know it's there. Xpi installers plus Java applets equals big trouble?

So be very careful while surfing with ANY browser and I suggest one other than IE but Opera seems the safest, even tho *I* still use Firefox. Liz

security is not the only reason you switch from IE.

the 'modern' (thats what they're callin 'em :P) have features such as pop up and ad blocking, tabbed browsing, and firefox is easily customizable.

all this makes your browsing experience much better [/cheesy ad :P]
