you cant. thats why you should use a generic font that most poeple have. such as verdana, times, tahoma, etc

I'm pretty sure there's ways to embed fots, but bear in mind that will increase the size of the site quite a bit and affect download times. People probably won't want to wait and will end up just going somewhere else.

Alternatively, you can make an image of the text, if it's only going to be used for say, a title or navigation links. This will still be more of a download size than just using standard fonts, and you'll also need to fill the alt element with exactly what the text in the image says so screen readers don't choke on it.

There is no such thing as "can't be done"

Microsoft's WEFT 3

Embedding Fonts Tutorial

What seems to be a useful FAQ on embedding fonts

That should be enough information to get you started in doing this....Im not to sure but I dont see this increasing download times by that much since font files are rather small and it would end up being cached anyways...

You can also create images with the font you want....

In interesting article on why you should AVOID using verdana

but pretty sure that weft is not cross browser (i think netscape have their own version too - certainly not cross platform) and who uses it?? also you might run into copyright problems but as i don't know anyone who uses font embedding then who can tell?!

Yes netscape browsers uses a Portable Font Resource or PFR file...this is all discussed in the links I provided....

Copyrights how would this be any different from using a font in an Image....It's not like you are redistributing the font, since it doesn't get installed on their computer its only cached in the browser....Basically you would still have to follow the end user agreement for the font file....

Yes this isnt done very often but the possibility for it to be done is there.......

Well I have never actually done this, but I was thinking about it and someone else had asked a question about this on this forum....So I have done some research....to the best of my knowledge so far you would have to (just like with everything else) use seperate techniques for both browser families (IE and everything else)....

However I do not think you would have to make seperate pages for each browser.....just proper coding

I suppose you could just use it anyway, and if it doesn't work then a default font will be displayed. Try to make the size and color stay the same as much as possible so that if somebody doesn't have the font it will turn out decently.

the new rendition of CSS3 (about to hit stores in who knows how long) supposedly
supports font importation, but knowing how IE operates, it'll be 10 years before we see it.
