They could possibly be talking about image map hotspots... this is where you have an image on a site, and you can click different parts of the image and they will activate different links.
It's a bit vague though...

Thats what i also haad the feeling it could be,i have put image mapping down on to the assignment, the questionwas vague i agree and therefore i will detest whether the answer is wrong or right!
This isn't a stupid question, despite what someone else said. A hotspot is where people are automatically drawn to on the webpage. It is usually found in the envelope view (which is as the page is opened it automatically goes to the start of the page) and then it is directly in front of them. The center of the page. The darkest orange is the hot spot.
It's a good enough answer. Just unfortunate that the question is FOUR years old.
I have a feeling that the OPs assignment may be well and truly completed by now.
