Hi everyone.

I've been designing a website for a band. It's at <snipped>.
It's been pretty much written in KWRITE that comes as part of the KDE interface with Linux. I use this because I prefer to work directly with the HTML/CSS and it offers syntax highlighting and code folding which is a superb feature.

Does anyone like my site? Is it garbage? Is it eye-catching? I think I ask these questions because I have been working on the thing for so long that I don't know what to think anymore!

I should also state that I know some of the graphics may look amateurish - I know this because I designed them myself. I'm not completely worried by this and I hope it does not interfere with anyone's navigation - if it does then please say.

There's no PHP and very little Javascript involved. I stuck by this because I felt it would be easier to maintain.

Thanks for any feedback

Cool. Loads quick. Make sure that you stick to that feature as much as you can. Bands need as much support as they can get (I would know, I'm in one). Don't let them lose hits because the page takes too long to load!

I would say it is a good start for a website. Does what it is supposed to.

My only two negatives would be - 1 - it has that 1998 website feel. Most websites today have a lot of visual or imagery that is more appealing (especially in the modern day of Adobe Graphics and Flash all over the place)

Also - Your links that are entire paragraphs of text? I would suggest making a button and leaving the text just plain text...

Good start though!

Excellent, wakam!

That bit about the 1998 feel was exactly what I've been having in mind. Back then it was about little animated GIFs and weird positions of text. I knew I definitely did not want that!

However, without resorting to Dreamweaver or GoLive with their templates I can't see how I'm going to end up with a website that has that modern feel. I want to be as fully involved in the coding as much as possible and not just simpy click on a location and drag some irrelevant style onto a webpage. Maybe you can't have one without the other, eh?

Besides, most web authors state that it is the content that makes up a webpage. They're talking about the text/writing (I think!) so images and stuff shouldn't be the main priority. Hmmm - maybe my website is an example of how this is NOT the case

The paragraph links will be amended. They started out as simple text and became as what they were. Would it be ok to simply take away the underlining and leave them as links? If not, would the headings still be ok as links? I don't want to use buttons yet if I can help it.

Overall, simplicity and speed was what I aimed for. I know the colours may leave a lot to be desired, but doing my homework on webpage designing it is about using analogous colours (similar colours) with a simple highlight colour to make things stand out.

I will amend the website soon. Get back to us on the above?

It doesn't take much to get out of "that" feel. You could even edit most of it using word pad or note pad. I am not familiar with KWRITE so I can't help you there.

The easiest way would be to just make a link that says "click here". Or make a graphic that says "Click here for more" and make the graphic a link. (Both involve the same type of html which you have used on those clickable paragraphs.)

Your posititioning is fine and so is your content. Maybe instead of the teal backgound you can use a black and white image of the band, or a darker color.

Everything else is great though - so don't re-do your whole site!

As for the analogous colors - Your links show up as blue (which is the html standard) as well as a blue background. You could change the link colors to red or orange and they will stand out (if you stay with the teal).

A small note for the band. I didn't see a genre. More information on the type and style of music would be good.

On a note for the site, would it be possible to put the lighter blue boxes in a table? It would be more attractive if they lined up more. Also getting the more modern feel will be hard with the teal background...

Good luck!

It loads rather quickly; but, there is nothing to hold my attention. The colors are harsh (which is a turn off) and the graphics are slightly lacking. It is an efficient information displayer, but unfortunately if I came across this site on the web, I wouldn't spend much time on it.

Solution: get some eye catching graphics, tone down the colors a little bit, shorten the reading time. People like to see those kinds of things.

Long time no see!

I've taken a deserved rest from website designing and ventured back into Linux. How nice it was to use the console and KDE to operate this wonderful operating system. Then, I remembered I have a band and they're desperate for a website. Balls!

Well, it's been updated and I've taken out the "unnecessary" layout and gone back to school. Just simple page layout for me from now on!

Additionally, I've added a "levitating" page look. I think as soon as this was done the page immediately looked "modern". Check it out for yourself!

The website is at <snipped>.

This thread has been closed. sulligogs, if you want a site review, please read the rules (see my sig block for a link). You must post in the correct forum Site Review and you must perform three other site reviews first for other members. This thread seems to have slipped through.
