I am having trouble with frames, being a total newb to pages with frames. I want a frame at the top with just my links, logo, and a nice background pic. Those three things are fairly large in size for my server to dish out so I want a way to keep that constant and just change the content that is below. The problem I am having is that the top header part has no scrollbar and the bottom does. It is not easy to just scroll the bottom 1/4 of the page. If I set the top to have a scrollbar too, then it makes two separate scrollbars (even worse ) Somebody please let me know how I can just make a page with only one scrollbar that covers the entire website, not just the bottom half.

can you link to the page in question?

Also I would suggest you use something other than frames.. PHP prehaps? Not that I know much about PHP...

nice site by the way. haha. but, that is the same problem that I am having. Here is my site: www.ravishi.com/frameTest.html I just want the top to be my initial frame or whatever it is called like it is now, but I want the bottom to be able to change. My server is somewhat slow, so if I could leave the top constant, then it would help pages load up faster. So what I need to know is how to have the top be a frame but still be connected with the bottom frame so that I can have one scrollbar. I don't know anything about php, but I will learn if needed.

your site is exactly what I don't want. It is already what I have and I want to know how to do the opposite. I want to know how to have a top constant header and the changing bottom as we both have, but I want one scrollbar for everything

Well, You can't! simple as that. not easily anyway

You either get the whole page scrolling or you get a section scrolling and some times when you get the vertical sizing a little bit out you get both

unless you go to extremes like this

Also

the pages load slowly because your header images amount to 160K plus. I suggest you learn to optimise your images as well.

Your home page images are also ludicrously large 37k for a thumbnail of a soundcard, 75k for a HD thumbnail. It's not the server that's slow!

Chris, do you know how to make it so info from my top frame will fall over to the bottom frame?
If you notice on mine the top frame info will not move down. the menu bar moves the menu up instead of sorta writting over and falling over the botom frame.

again you can't easily. That's the nature of frames, each one is an independant entity and they do not interact with each other once the frameset is loaded.
It should be possible to use javascript to resize the frames within the mouse events that trigger the menu, but it would lead to some disconcerting effects depending on the content of the lower frame.

All said and done though, frames were only ever a short term solution to getting commonality between pages and their day has long gone. Frames do still have a part to play in certain scenarios, but everyday use on the average website isn't one of them.
There are numerous other ways of acheiving the same look and functionality while making sure the pages are both user friendly and search engine friendly.
