Please view my site http://whatever.lx.ro in Firefox and then in IE. Do you notice any difference?

My site looks crappy in Internet Explorer. Here's the style sheet for the page:
whatever.lx.ro/style/main.css

Please help me make it a little less horrible to look at.

Best regards,
Dan Burzo

it's the <?xml ... > directive above the DTD. It puts IE back into quirks mode.

Ok. i removed the xml tag from the page and it looks well now. Still i need to work a bit on the margins and padding.

Thanks for the tip, chrishirst.

Firstly the cell border styles are all random looking. You have ones that are long dashes and some that are short. Try to remain consistent. The cell padding is a little bit too much.

There appears to be nothing wrong with your CSS. I have noticed that validating your page is harder to get certain features accessable when using Firefox to display it (e.g. cell backgrounds, with Firefox it will show them unless the page has been validated).

I'm not using tables. It's a CSS-based design.
There is a single border line, but it looks messed up in IE because of the scrolling (if you refresh the page it gets back to normal).

I'm having a hard time validating the xhtml because the hosting service inserts code at the end of the page. The white box at the bottom is an ad they place.

I see about the borders. People say that CSS is the future. Is it ****. I think that good-old fashion html beets everything. All the browsers display (when coded properly) what you want them to display. W3C, i hate them. They are like the government: constantly making errors.

And your site looks fine. The menu is just a little bit to thick (height).

They do have a point. Separating content from formatting should have been used from the very beginning. The discontinuity (is this the proper word in english ) of appearence in different browsers is a temporary issue. Future versions will have full support for CSS and web standards. Anyway, there's nothing wrong with table-based designs, but i prefer CSS.

Best regards.

getting off-topic here.
Anyway, for all of you who haven't had the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the "crappy version", check this out (in IE): http://whatever.lx.ro/index2.htm
(problem caused by the xml tag placed before the DOCTYPE tag)
