Alright I just build my first all div and css web site and I've got it almost 100% the way I want it, with one problem. There is a huge white border all around my site. I'm sure there is just some tweak to the css that needs to be done but I can't find it. I'd appreciate any help I can get.

I've dummied the site up on my home page

...I can't believe it was that easy. I always end up smacking myself after stuff like this.

What about the couple hundred pixels of white space next to my right edge?

I think it has to do with the fact I didn't use CSS to position that one. I couldn't figure out the coding right.

you have no doctype despite using XHTML tags so the browser have to "guess" at how to render the page

It will be a combination of the paddings, margins and absolute pasitioning causing the problem.

Your version is 100% compatible with IE, but run's into trouble with Firefox. And neither let's me get the framing I'd like to. I want to bump the content a bit away from the side bars.

In Firefox links will go dead if they are level with content in the main div.

quite probably, I didn't test it to death. probably needs the z-index bringing up, Yes I know z-index should only work with absolute elements by rights, but in reality all browsers seem to apply it to all elements.

the framing should only be a matter of adjusting the left and right padding of "main"

I just did it to show that absolute positioning is very rarely needed and will often cause problems when you are first getting to grips with CSS.

Alright the z-index worked wonders but I can't get the padding to respond. Also after pasting in an article I found a new problem

having the <div class="content"> in there will have messed that up because there isn't a .content defined in the style sheet.

I looks like it's working perfectly now. Unless you can think of any other polish work I'd need to do.

Thanks for the help

you probably just need to style the text and headers etc and don't forget alt attributes on images
