Very long delay in internet explorer rendering a webpage

Hello,

we have created this website http://www.webbuttonmaker.com and some dynamic pages under it using php/mysql. The main page http://www.webbuttonmaker.com/buttons takes too long to render in internet explorer while it renders progressively in firefox (haven't tested in other browsers). IE appears to hang while loading the page and renders it all at once in the end.

Any ideas why? Is it just the heavy use of tables for laying out the elements? Any ideas for a quick fix without having to rewrite the whole layout in CSS?

And another weird bug in IE:
When you click on the "Texture" drop down arrow in the same webpage, a layer with some texture thumbnails appears and you can move back and forth between pages of thumbnails on this layer. When you move to another page, a new set of textures is downloaded, and while each texture thumbnail is being downloaded, an animated GIF indicating that a download is in progress is being displayed instead. Again, this works fine in Firefox, but in IE the animation is stopped on the first frame.

Any workaround for this too?

Thanks in advance.

This site doesn't seem to work in any browser. I tried to get both links to load in FF, IE and NN 7. Sometimes they would load, most times I'd get an "unable to connect".

You have several dead image links for starters. I didn't have the patients to wait longer that 2 minutes for a complete load. I think your server is seriously buggered.

Perhaps someone closer to the network location to your server may have better luck getting a successful page load.

Where are you trying to connect from? I mean, are you sure you hadn't been experiencing network problems at the time? We never had a complaint like that before, the pages load great in FireFox, the only problem we know of is with IE (haven't tried with Opera or Netscape).

Dude, it's not a complaint; I'm not a site 'visitor', just a dev with some spare time to kill. Located in Brisbane Australia: 1.5mb cable. No network issues.

[edit] just tried again, pages load fine in all browsers - no delays in ie,ff & nn [/edit]

I should've written "complaint" (in quotes) in the first place too, it's ok
We appreciate your input anyway.

I'm glad that now the pages load ok, maybe the first time our web hosting provider was having some trouble, I hope this doesn't happen very often.

But when you're saying that the pages now load fine in all browsers, do you mean IE too? I mean, don't you experience an initial delay and/or an apparent "freezing" of IE before it renders the page http://www.webbuttonmaker.com/buttons ?

Yeah - I see what you mean after I clear the cache.

I see the trouble being with the number of images rendering with the elements of the page. If you were to CSS the bulk of those images, where possible as bg's for e.g., IE should render the page layout faster.
