Hey i want to make a link to a file that people are going to download...they should see the "save as" and "open" window like when you download something....

Does anyone knows the html codes for that?

thanks in advance

There is no special code. Use a normal <a href> to link to the file you want people to be able to download. The browser takes care of the rest. For example; if the file you want them to be able to download is called "myfile.zip" then <a href="myfile.zip"> will do the trick.

Not always ... if the user has the pdf plug in installed then the file will d/l and be displayed in the browser. There are a couple of ways around that:

1. Put the pdf into an archive file
2. Rename the pdf with a stoopid file extension "myfile.blah", but make sure that you instruct people who d/l the file to rename it appropriately.

However, you will find that most people who access pdf's on line and have the plug in will still save a copy of the file if they want to retain the pdf, so in the end all this becomes purely academic.
