How many people here still use notepad for html editing?

I have used many of the free editors from normal html editors to free wysiwyg ones [which suck mainly] and notepad is still the best. Loads the fastest and never crashes!

When I first started hard coding I swore by NotePad, but I have since stumbled across TextWrangler. It's free and it is wonderful.

The best part of it is the colour changes as you type the correct code. If the colour doesnt change properly - your code's screwed up somewhere!

Nothing against NotePad - I would still rather use that than Dreamweaver (seeing the code that generates just hurts me!), but if you fancy downloading TextWrangler, I would recommend it.

I've got addicted to Emacs. I edit my code on the server itself. At first the keyboard commands seem odd but then you get really fast at using them.

VIM is the all time best editor, once you get used to how to use it. Besides that I use Source Edit which is free.

Not used VIM, although I had to use vi at one point. Nasty experience. You develop this nervous habit of pressing 'Escape' several times before every command to make sure you're in the right mode, then you start typing and only the bit after the first letter 'i' (the insert command!!) appears.

If I could throw out a vote -- I think there are other threads about this topic -- is Textpad.

It really gets based on what you get used to. They all are similar in some way, maybe the look and feel is different or the coloring system but they all end up being brought back to pretty much a pretty version of notepad that crashes more often and likes to be annoying. I usually use EditPlus because is what I've become accustomed to, not because it is the best. One that I would recommend is ScITE. It is really good specially if you can find a good pack somewhere in the internet. I used it for a while but I was brought back to EditPlus because my familiarity with it.

I am using the latest notpad which changes colors also. I agree, notepad is my favorite. I think that anyone who has been coding for a while agrees, or at least I think so. I am used to working with rookies that want me to use frontpage, or another html editor. America is like that though:
I notice that my shoe is untied... I bend over and tie it.

The Corperate way:
My shoe is untied. My supervisor reccommends three ebooks by gurus on tying shoes. Then we buy the latest software to make my shoe tied better than anyone else. WE then take the time to read the ebooks, and learn the software. But their are many glitches in the software. After my boss fired me because he realized that the software and ebooks were to expensive, and drained him of his money, I am left wondering why I did not just bend over and tie it. My point is, if you know html, then a simple editor is all you need! I guess Im a simple kinda guy! LOL
