Always reserve space for scrollbar?

Hi,

I have a website that sometimes has a scrollbar, and sometimes it doesn't.
Because of that the positioning of the background pattern is not always the same, which in turn is really distracting. Is there a way that I could always have the area for the scrollbar reserverd, and that area showing as scroll area, but it just being inactive?

I'm using XHTML and CSS for my website.

Thanks!

I'm not too sure exactly what you mean, do you think you could provide an example?
Also, is this a popup? Because if it is you can just use the scrollbars boolean on the javascript function for a popup I think. I'm not too sure, haven't dealt with this in a long time. An example of what you mean would help though. Thanks

Notice the difference between this and this. The first one has a scrollbar, the second does not. I would like all pages to have a scrollbar, even if the page content does not require it.

Using css, 'overflow: scroll;' will display scrollbars even if the content doesn't need it. Alas, it displays them along the horizontal axis too.

...you're using some none SGML characters and there are quite a few errors. As such, I'd put the current appearance as "unpredictable". Neither page had a scroll bar here - but that could be a resolution issue (in 1280x1024 here if that helps)...

Cheers,
