Okay, my problem can be found at http://www.rhythmandvibe.com/elbopa/template.html. Anyway, I've defined the width of five cells in a row, and set all the rest of the rows to colspan="5". So, the width's I've defined are not working. Instead of 10px, for example, the first cell is like 15px. I don't know what's wrong, so help would be appriciated.

Pixel units are relative to the viewing device... Could be that? Not sure. In any case, I'd recommend using Pt (about 1/72 of an inch for each) or percentages. If you use percentages your table should scale admirably irrespective of client browser resolution....

Thanks for your advice, security, but I think I'll take my chances with absolute widths. I'm looking for a solution to the problem, not how to avoid it. Any other takers?

Not sure exactly what your problem is but if it is the blue space around the header image your trying to get rid of then this is something I noticed.

Your image is 770 pixels wide but when you add up the width of your columns they total 780 pixels.

I wanted a five pixel margin around the left, top and right of the image. I'll put a border around it so you can see how things are screwing up.

I'm not sure what browser you are using but the attachment and the regular file look the same. I'm not really seeing what the problem is.

They are they same. I was using a screen shot of that (from firefox), and showing you how it is actually supposed to be. If you look at the page I've given you, you'll see that that first cell is more than 10px. I want it to be 10px. I don't know what I can do to be more clear. The cells are not the same size as I've defined them as. That is what my problem is.

Sorry my bad. When I first looked at this post I was using IE and not thinking. After leaving the computer for awhile I had the sudden thought that IE sucks and never renders anything correctly. So I came back opened up FireFox and now I can see your problem.

Have you tried to set the width of the table to 780 pixels. Although it shouldn't matter I remember having a problem like this before. I think the way I fixed it was by setting a table width.

Well... I already had in my CSS "width:780px;". I tried putting it directly in my table with style="width:780px;" but that didn't work either. I even tried width="780px" but no luck. Any other thoughts, or should I just redue the whole thing?

Okay, I took away the border and replaced it with red and green stripes that show the width. I've mentioned what the width sizes are supposed to be, and what they are actually showing up as (I'd like to say thanks to the firefox plugin, MeasureIt). I don't have any clue what is causing this, but now you can see it a little better.

Also, It doesn't seem to look the same in IE. Wow... this is annoying.

I think you would probaby be better off just using div's and get rid of the table completely. I don't ever have any luck trying to set up a layout using a table. If you'd like to go the CSS route I'll be glad to help.

I only have one problem with that: In IE, if you try to select text, it grabs the whole amount of text within the div, I think because it is positioned away from where the element is in my HTML (I assume, anyway). Do you know of anyway around that?

I never had that happen. I use all CSS for my layouts and don't have that problem. In fact I just went and checked it in IE 5.5

Check for yourself Touch of Insanity, all of the text is contained within div's and doesn't seem affected.

I would remove the style tags
td style="width:10px;"

and use standard html in it's place
td witdth="10"

No, I think they call that something like spam. Although I can't read German, you've posted this in two threads for no reason at all.
