I have a couple of questions....first...how can i create a clear box with a scroller on the side so i don't have to have a large page in order to have a lot of text? Secondly...is there anyway that I can incoporate any kind of transition from one page to another? Something like a fade in fade out? Without the use of flash? (hosting site does not support flash)

Check out my site

http://www.southwestmsu.edu/smac/

and let me know if you have any other comments...keep in mind this is the first site i have ever designed

Thank you very much!

The hosting has absolutely nothing to do with Flash, Flash is purely a client side solution.

use CSS for the scroll box
Code:
.scroll_box {
width:300px;
height:300px;
overflow:auto;
}
and if you really have to you can use page transitions. But rest assured once you get a few hours beyond newbie status, you will be taken them down. They are real "my first webpage" stuff along with a rotating "e" for the email, flashing gifs and snow falling down the page at Christmas.

The site is on my universities webpage, they will not allow us to use flash....

Could you please explain a little more about how to use the code you gave? CSS? Is there anyway to do it in HTML?

I'm not the one who wants the transitions...boss does...and if he is happy I'm happy

Thanks

CSS is used to style HTML

HTML Code:
<div class="scroll_box"> Content goes here</div>
W3Schools
