Hi, ive been giving the task to create a bell schedule for the school i work at...
Id perfer it to be in javascript...since its goin to be running from the desktop of the windows server computer...
so for instance -
the first bell needs to ring at 9:05, 2nd at 9:55, 3rd at 10:45, etc...all it needs is to play a windows sound or sumthing that gets your attention...but im looking more for the scource code of it just playing a specified sound at specified times during the day..does that make sense??

Thanks,
Conrad

You could probably use Java for this. It was, in fact, developed to run appliences and stuff.

But if you don't want to do that (that was assuming you have a physical bell or whatever), why not use Window's "Scheduled Tasks"? Just set it for daily and stuff.

No...I just wanted a javascript code that played a certain sound at a certain time...not an interface using cookies and wat not..something that a school admin can open that noes very little about computer and thats all he has to do, so he doesnt have to be bothering the person that wrote the program everyother day asking if he did it right...

The thing is, JavaScript isn't best suited for this type of work. (In fact, I don't think you can write a desktop application in JavaScript) Javascript is mainly used for client side scripting of web pages - what you're looking for doesn't really seem to have anything to do with web pages.

There's probably a few alarm clock type programs you can download from the net which will allow you to set multiple alarms and set the sound you want to use for each one...

Seriously.... What's wrong with Scheduled Tasks? You can do it daily, without even having to think about it. It can open up a media player or something and play your sound.

You are missing the entire point.

A webpage simply isn't the medium to use for this. For a start the user(s) who need the warning sound MUST have the page open for the event to even occur.

You say it's running from the windows server desktop, so it probably needs to be a "thin" client operation and you need the client program to run as a background task (9x) or service (NT, 2k, XP) so the user does not have to start anything other than the PC.
