I assume that looking at a HTML page in explorer or file manager gives you the file size, e.g. 85Kb.

Is this true or do i have to add up the images on that page as well ?

I am just trying to establish estimated page loading times, and want to know what the ideal page size should be.

Regards, Simon.

Windows explorer shows the size of the selected file only.

You can test this by changing size of an image and seeing the change (none) in the file size of the .htm

If you are using dreamweaver to build your pages, the page size and loading times are calculated for you. They are displayed in the bottom right hand corner of the page.

The speed by default is set to 56k, but can be changed in status bar settings under preferences.

I have just reviewed a page in the following ways :

Dreamweaver Bott RH Corner : 157K/23 sec (checked 56K setting)
File manager : 30K

So, ive got it now, but I am not conviced on the upload time of 23 secs ?

Regards, Simon.

Dave,

Whats the logic in 157K @ 56K/sec = 23 secs.

Don't get me wrong i am sure you and the worlds leading web design software know more than me, but i like to know why..... yes I was annoying at school !

Cheers, Simon.

56Kbits/sec = 7Kbytes/sec

157Kbytes @ 7Kbytes/sec = 23 secs
