Hi all,

Hope you can help the noob.. Could someone tell me how I can go about creating the code, where an image remains static in the background, even when you scroll down the page? Is this a job for CSS or can it be done in HTML?

Many thanks.

I'm not sure that bgproperties is valid html (isn't it an IE extension?).

I think (but I may be wrong!) that the css way to do it is by using

HTML Code:
background: url(image.jpg) top left no-repeat fixed;
top, left specifies the position
no-repeat stops image repeating horizontally and vertically
fixed stops scrolling

Stoot, shame on you. Using depreciated values in HTML. Shocking. CSS is the future people.

Please forgive me, I've only ever needed to do that once, and it was a while ago...

Thine pleadings go unheeded oh blasphemer! You are banished to the dark wastelands of deprecated hell.

Well, ok if it was only the once...

Romeo, I suggest you read the rules. You have so far commited two offences. That I have witnessed. When you forget something in a post, simply edit it. Double posting is not allowed.

And Stoot, you are forgiven.

I did it using CSS like this for a web page I recently completed and it works like a charm.

#content {
background: url(foo);
background-position: top;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
}

Hope this helps,

Diane, that is all good and well when your background-image is large enough to fill the screen. But if you have it the proper way (a small tile), then repeat it (on either x or y) and put position: static; you get the effect that the threadstarter wanted. Your method only works on browers of the same size as yours with backgrounds similar to yours.
