Hello everyone.

Have you ever seen those sites that allow you to virtually paint pictures of rooms in a house? They are used for demos on paint colors, etc. Choosing colors for trim, walls, carpet and so on.

I have been given the job to create something similar to this, but using outdoor patio cushions as my subject.

Has anyone done this before and can provide some pointers? My best guess is that I will have to create all this in flash, but would rather it be HTML coded so that it can easily be changed or updated.

You could try using an applet to allow you to do this...

Have a look at this free one I found which you could modify...

Look for the colouring book applet, its free to download.

Flash is one option yes, but how good are your flash programming skills?

Good Luck

Thanks for the link, I will check it out.

Flash skills are decent...but a little rusty. My problem is that we will be having different fabrics that are always in and out of stock. I will need to be able to activate and deactivate them on the fly and not have to mess with editing fla's all the time.

Thanks again...I will see what I can come up with.

It should be able to be done with JavaScript/CSS and transparent PNG/GIF files. How many color are we talking? Is if feasable to make an image for each object/color?

Possible you can make a setup that will allow you to have an image for each replaceable object, overlay them as PNGs/GIFs using a stylesheet in enclosing DIVs, then use JS to switch each out for each colored object.

Here is an example of what I am trying to do: http://www.summerlivingdirect.com/x/

Each image is "mapped" using special software and I am thinking that it will have to be done per cushion or section of cushion.

There are going to be over 300 fabrics when all is said and done, but there are many different cushion styles as well...this is where the "build your cushion" comes in as visitors will be able to select fabrics for top, bottom, sides, ties and so on.
