Dear all,
Looked around and can't find that my question has been answered anywhere else. I'm battling with my website at the moment. My old <embed sound> and <bgsound> code is not pukka according to w3c, any solutions on how to get a sound to play once, on page opening? I don't really want to play with quick time or microsoft media players. My site is a predominately text so a huge player stuck on the page will just look vulgar and ruin the decor!

thanks in advance

Nikki

Personally, I find music on a website annoying, as some people will. I would definitely want the choice of "turning it off" if I so choose. But I found this website that might be worth it for you to check out. It has choices for imbedding music plus it shows how you can give the visitor choices. Check it out here.

Just my own opinion,

In short. If you still want to include music on your page:

HTML Code:
<embed src="music.mp3" hidden="false" autostart="false">
This will run one mp3 file in the users default media player. It won't stream, it will be downloaded when the pages loads.

Thanks everyone who replied, I might not have explained myself very well. Playing music non-stop at my readers is the last thing I want to do! I find music in lifts and supermarkets annoying!

I am endeavouring to validate my pages and the "embed src" code keeps throwing up errors! it says its not allowed in body elements.

I have a sound that plays on transition from one page to another like a page turning in a book.

any help gratefully recieved.
Thanks
