Start out with the very basics. Ask yourself what you are trying to get your visitors to do. Layout a step-by-step plan to get them from the home page to the action page that you want them to get to. What pages inbetween are absolutely necessary to give them the information to take this action?
Using proper content with call to actions requiring responses will get them to the desired outcome, content development should happen quite naturally if we use this approach.
Everything else is just other stuff that may help them decide, if they need help. Give them the info that they need to make the decision, and make it easy to get to. If you stick by this formula, you will have a great and effective web site...
If your web site is going to be used for marketing and sales, then think that way. Don't make the mistake of filling your pages with features of your products. Remember, buyers want to see, not product features but the benefits your product/service has to offer. And, while you are doing this, show them why you are better than your competition.
Success with your content and web site.!!
