As the select element is a windowed control it does not support the z-index attribute or zIndex property.
So can anyone suggest a way to get my dropdown to stay under my overlapping content?

Incidentally: my overlapping content only overlaps on the onmouseover event.

Thanks folks.

BTW: FF has got a clue and performs as expected, as ever IE does whatever the hell it wants.

;p

Hi Purk,

Can you show us the code? Not having to create your whole scenario will make it easier to see what to do.. (maybe)

I assume it's IE that you're having the problem? Select boxes will always show through DIVs in IE, it's a bug. You'll need to hide the select box when you show your overlapping content. I just went through the same thing.

chipjohns: the code is a bit cumbersome so i won't paste it. you can see it here :http://www.thatvilla.com/search_result.php

the dropdown appears at the bottom of the page and i have a script which expands an image when the mouseover event is fired. it is the expanded image which has the dropdown showing on top of it.

funkdaddu: seems like a lot of effort to cater to yet another IE bug but i think you are right, fortunately this time the code is simple enough. thanks
