I'm not even sure if I know how to ask the right question, but I need help urgently on this, appreciate if anyone could shed some lights in this.

I am closing down a site, who ever arrives at any page of the site, should be redirected to the index page (as there is a message there), how can I go about doing that, apart from removing all pages?

Thanks in advance for any help at all.

Cheers

The best way you would do it is remove all your pages, then in a .htaccess file make all errors redirect to your index page.

Or manually go through each page and put a redirect script on it - Meta/Javascript

it is a redirect example:

<SCRIPT>top.location.href='http://www.newdomain.com';</SCRIPT>

put this between <title></title> and the <head></head> elements.

Or to ensure non-JS users get forwared use this in your head:

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;URL=/index.html">

but sdcdesign.co.uk's idea is the best.

you can use .htaccess to redirect everybody going to any pages to whatever page you choose without deleting the pages. altho that's an option.
