I am creating my Homepage structure using Divs & Css coding.

The page will include Menus & Links.

When a Link is selected, how can I make the Page to be opened, open up in one of the other Divs?

The menu will be created with php and want to keep the original homepage open and allow pages to open up in the center Div

<div id="content">

I am also new to using JUST div and css. I had this issue too.. The answer is, it doesn't actually open up in tyhe div layer. It won't act as an iframe which is probably what you are used to. Have you any experience in php includes? That will save you a lot of time. I would be more than happy to help you, I just need to know where you are in terms of php knowledge.

Bascially, you will use php includes to build the entire thing. I am sorry if this is muddled.

I do know what you are saying, I had the same questions when I was just starting with this whole thing. Div layers aren't iframes and the page won't actually open up in it. You can get the same effect though. Just let me know...

It's just like KellyElizabeth said. What you're think of is a behavior of frames. With php what you would do is use a php include or require statement to add the menu to each page and then have your css style and position it.

You'll still only need to update the menu in one place, but when someone clicks a link it's the whole page that changes not just one part of the page.

I dont think I explained myself properley because what your telling me to do, ive already done, I just didnt post that version link.

http://www.troublefreetraveladvisor.com/website.php

Ok here it is,on the left is the php menu, I used the include method.and yea im new to php aswell.

obviously as you can see, when i added the menu, its moved the layout bit slightly, im sure i can fix that with a bit of tweaking. So I have the menu(not the real one, just for practice purposes)

Im still confused to how to deal with the Links though. how to direct them.
otherwise i would end up using my homepage as a template and use that as the basis for each and every page, but i dont like the sound of that.

I'm really not sure what it is you're asking. I would think you want the new pages to appear in the iframe you have which they seem to be doing right now.

You're not going to be able to get the pages to open in a div. That's not what divs are for. I think most of us would recommend you not use the iframe at all, but if you don't want to use your home page as a template for your other pages then an iframe is probably the way to go.

It's not hard though to use your home page as a template. In fact it will be just as easy as creating all the pages that will go into the iframe. You just make a copy of the page and switch the content with your new content.

yeah the template is an easy option

but i didnt think it was recommended and that you should use CSS instead.

I solvd the problem i posted about&uploaded it.

So should i scrap the Iframes all together?
Stick to using my php menu which means updating all the pages is very easy. all that would need changing is the actual Content of the page

I think you're confusing some of what the different technologies do. Using your home page as a template for your other pages is still using css. Your css file(s) would still be what is controlling the presentation of your site.

I wouldn't recommed the iframe as I've already said. What I usually do is get the one page to look like I want and then just make a copy of that page and rename it to the next page and then change the content of the new page and anything else that should be unique to that new page.

You can try this:

CSS:
Code:
.content { border: 1px solid; }
HTML:
HTML Code:
<div class="content">Content goes here.</div>
That will create a border around the content.
