I need to find the .htaccess file on my server using cyberduck FTP for Mac. I can't find it.

It's not automatically there. If it's already there it's most likely in your root folder. Sometimes you need to show all files in your ftp program to see it. You can have more than one .htaccess file though and they can reside in every subfolder under the root.

If you don't have one there at the moment you can create one. Just make sure to use a text editor and not a wordprocessor and then upload it to the root directory for your account (or any subfolder depending on what your needs are)

Yep. Depends on what you're trying to do. Could you give us a little more detail. I'm sure we can point you in the right direction.

well, I need to force downloads. I don't really know what else it can do. But I heard it can do MIME types.

you can add MIME types using htaccess, but the forced download has to be done using server-side code to change the response headers for the file.

You have another thread (or two) on the subject (now three apparently) last I recall was finding out whether PHP was enabled or not, or have I missed something while I've been busy?

Did you previously create one? You won't have one unless you made one and uploaded it yourself.

You can make a file called htaccess.txt and edit it. After you are done editing it you can change the file back to .htaccess and you will be able to use it on your website. Also remember to upload it using ACSI and not Binary. This sometimes makes a difference.

I often work away from my office, as webdev isn't the only string to my bow, so there are days where I only skim the forums and ignore PM alerts. So apologies, I wasn't ignoring you just busy. We all give our time freely here so work and earning a living sometimes has to take priority.
Also having multiple threads on the same subject (or very similar) leads to confusion and can end up with you really being ignored.

You could of course do a forum search of the PHP forum if it is urgent.

Or it could be that your host doesn't support .htaccess as that is the case with some hosts.

go to the PHP forum and search for "force download" there are at least 6 threads with examples of the code you need.
