Hi all, put a similar post in WYSIWYG but I think I might get more luck in here. As part of my learning I've created some ASP pagfes in Dreamweaver and tied them to an Access database so I can display my photos and the user can move through them one at a time. I just created a simple html page with a text link to the ASP page. When I run it through localhost the index page shows but when I click on the link I get the "page unavailable" error. i can run the ASP directly through localhost and view my imagesokay. Is there something I'm missing, like a brain, or is my localhost acting the fool? is there some special code I have to use to bring the ASP page up?

Cheers, Lol

the error must be in your link.

Thanks Chris, I was using the conventional <ahref....> link and wondered if I needed to use something else. i suspect the problem lies with my files in LocalHost. I prefer to do all my testing live and have far less trouble that way. Unfortunately until i sort out an ASP host I have to do it locally.

I guess as you mention "localhost" you have IIS running on your dev machine.

are your links absolute, document relative or root relative?

I can't find the emoticon for "scratches head" although you raise an interesting point. I noticed that the index page path in browser window was C;\Inetpub.... whereas the path for the "nonpage" that came up was C:\page name even though I did the links in Dreamweaver on the local version and "sent" them up to the IIS server. Curious eh?

check your links are not simply to the filing system UNCs (href="file:///c:...." )

to have the pages served through the ASP interpreter they should look like http://localhost/pagename.asp
