When I write a direct link to a movie file a blank window appears when the download commences. I was curious if there was a way to load a page that wasn't blank when people downloaded one of my video files?

Thanks

I don't think there is a way of doing using strict html. If you have availability of php or asp, you can force a download by defining the mime type in the requested http headers.

You can try having instructions for the person to right-click on the link and then select save.. This is sort of forceful in my opinion but I have seen quite a few sites do it.

Using Windows Media is going to open it up in Media Player and the window is going to be blank. You could embed the video with the html. In other words, the link isn't to the movie. it is to an html page that has the movie embeded in it..

Quicktime should open in the browser window. Hopefully no problem their.

Another option is to use Flash if you want to go that route.

Not knowing more about your circumstances, I would say not to worry about it. Most people are doing the same thing and users are familiar with the empty window..with WMP at least.

If you are talking about a lot of video that you need to present you may consider using a streaming video server provider to host your video and offer your video this way.
